Types Of Music Videos

Craig Davis is a key media theorist and came up with 3 ideas of what a music video can be:

The first one is and ILLUSTRATION. This is a type of video which is a striaghtforward video which basically illustrates the lyrics and this is acted out within the song. An example of this is the music video by Eminem (Stan)



We have decided that we would like our video to be an illustration music video as we want to really make the audience think about the lyrics and it to actually have a meaning.

The second type of music video is an AMPLIFIED music video. This means that the lyrics of thw video are really amplfied and made very clear throughout the video.Sometimes this is done in a strange way by using strange lighting techniques or generally not typical for the type of genre.

The last type of music video is a DISJUNTURE. This type of video is very different from the other two and is completely abstract making no connections or associations to the lyrics what so ever.
