Distribution of recorded music

Distribution has been greatly affected by internet usage mainly because of such easy access to free MP3s. I found out that CDs are one of the main commodities brought online and this is due to the fact that online retailers have a much wider range of music genres than a traditional retailer. Record stores could be seen as being most affected by general conditions in retailing, which means that although there are fewer bigger stores they put pressure on small independent ones. Genres that come under 'Chart music' are avaliable almost everywhere, for example: supermarkets and petrol stations. This again goes back to the point that people with a wider music taste are better off buying CDs etc online. I will now consider this when thinking of ways our artists song 'Take me on a train' could be distributed, focusing on the fact that often the Indie genre doesn't fall into chart music. This tells me that it would be a better idea to sell the MP3 on the interent.
